Ghana: Security Sector Governance and Management Course at the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College

Chief of Staff and Minister for Presidential Affairs, Mr. Kojo Mpiani, says Ghana has started to feel the impact of increased oil prices and has suggested that adjustments be made in the national budget to pay for crude oil and meet other contingencies.

He added that the discovery of oil will bring in its wake new challenges which have serious security implications. Not only will businesses re-locate to the Western region and other parts of the country to be able to provide goods and services for the operation of the oil industry, but a lot of people will flock into the country, especially from the West African sub region as a result of the oil.

Mr. Mpiani said this at the opening of the 5th Security Sector Governance and Management Course at the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College. The course would last for three weeks. He stated that as a country we need to properly brace ourselves to confront these challenges since the country can reap maximum results from the oil discovery. Continue
